The farm

Lowlands Farm is a small sustainable farm in Austin, TX.  We use organic and sustainable farming practices to steward our land and resources, ensuring that only the highest quality products reach our customers.

We have a vision to transform the way our community cooks and eats - by connecting people with one another, with nourishing food, and with the patterns of the changing seasons. We want to bring nourishment and beauty to your table, whether that’s your backyard, your kitchen counter, or your restaurant.

The name Lowlands Farm is a nod to our heritage and roots in the Netherlands (“low country”) and our a tiny dutch farming hometown in Washington State, as well as the fertile Snohomish (“low land people”) river valley where the farm got its start. It felt right to keep a name that honors our beginning and bring a little bit of those foggy lowland deep river blues to Central Texas.

Your Farmer

I’m Alice Vander Haak. I grew up in a small town in Washington State, working on dairy & berry farms each summer. While studying to be a Registered Dietitian, I realized that my passion for good food, the environment, and community was leading me right back to farming.

After nearly a decade working on sustainable vegetable farms, Lowlands Farm was started in Snohomish WA in 2018. The farm went on pause after I welcomed twins to my family in 2023 and moved to Austin TX later that year!

I’m so excited to bring my love for food & flowers to Austin and re-start Lowlands Farm here in TX. From the day-to-day manual work of harvesting and weeding, to creative problem solving and establishing systems, to budgets and spreadsheets, I find deep joy & fulfillment in all aspects of producing beautiful, quality produce and flowers for the community.
